Two Advocacy Groups Join Forces to Fight Keno Addition in Nova Scotia
Late last week, two advocacy groups announced they would be working together to fight the recent addition of Keno to Nova Scotia. The Safe Bet Society and Game Over VLTS are working to make the Nova Scotia government stop offering electronic Keno. Several places in Nova Scotia introduced the electronic Keno game last week and a total of one hundred and eighty bars and restaurants have made agreements to get the game of Keno. Players are able to place $10 bets on numbered tickets every five minutes. However, they must take a ten minute break every hour.
Both the Safe Bet Society and Game Over VLTS would like to see the machines removed. Game Over VLTS have been fighting for six years to have VLTs removed from Nova Scotia while the Safe Bet Society works to see tougher controls for more responsible gambling. The Safe Bet Society will soon release results from a study they had conducted on a new card
based preventative technology.
It may be hard for the two agencies to convince the Nova Scotia government to do away with the Keno games as they have estimated the province to earn between $2 million and $3 million a year.
