Revenues in Keno Fall Short by Tens of Millions of Dollars
Government officials of the state of Ohio believed that this year the edition of the game of Keno would earn the state a significant amount of money. So much so that the state would not have to make cuts in education funding. However, the game has not done as well as expected and the state has seen the revenues fall short by $43 million. In the game of keno, players pick from a mix of random numbers and try to match seven of the numbers to win a prize. The game earned only $30 million in revenues year and the governor, Ted Strickland, believed the game would make $73 million and that was not what would happen.
The governor has also submitted a slots proposal and now with the low numbers from the game of keno, many in the state are not feeling good about the slots proposal. Strickland has stated that the addition of slots will bring projected revenue of $933 million. This amount would help balance the state budget but many are afraid slots would have the same result as the game of keno.
However the governor is still confident in his proposal for slots and his office has stated that the keno numbers are not an indicator for how well slots will do in the state.
