Ohio Woman Charged with Running Illegal Keno Machines and Other Gambling Devices
An Ohio woman was sentenced just a few weeks ago for running an illegal gambling operation. Erika Kleinfield, a former preschool teacher, was sentenced to one hundred and eighty days in jail after she was convicted of four gambling violations. The woman was fined $5,700 along with her charges. The four felonies are for gambling, two licensing violations and operating a gambling house. The City Prosecutor stated that Kleinfield was operating a gambling house until March of 2008. The attorney sent a nuisance action against the woman so she agreed to move out of state.
A month later at least ten gambling machines showed up in the county. Kleinfield was running an Internet Café of sorts with keno, poker and simulated slot games. The café was operating twenty six skilled games with twenty six terminals.
Kleinfield said that she was operating a sweepstakes operation not a gambling operation. After the sentencing, Kleinfield was ordered to forfeit all of the machines and was only told to stay in jail for twenty days.
