Nebraska City Trying to Decide on Keno
Voters throughout the county where Nebraska City is located have approved the addition of keno gaming and would like to see it implemented. The state department of revenue reported the vote to city commissioners of Nebraska City on Monday. City Commissioners in Nebraska City have the power to prohibit the game of keno from entering their city even though citizens voted to have the game. If the city decides to allow the game of keno they can negotiate with the county to tax the keno operator or share revenue.
According to Bill David, the City Attorney, the current city codes does not have anything in it that can prohibit keno. So unless the commission takes action against the game, it will be allowed.
It seems as though the city would want to add the game of keno as a way to raise funds for the city. If the citizens have voted to have it then that should let officials know that the game is wanted in the city. With the tough economic times right now any extra money coming in is helpful so if the city commissioner is smart they will add the game.
